Donald W. Doggett retired August 31, 2013 after thirty six years of employment with Lee County Hyacinth/Mosquito Control District in Ft. Myers, Florida. Don received a Bachelor of Science degree in Forestry Management from the University of Missouri in 1974. He worked as a laboratory technician for three years at the USDA-ARS-Biological Control of Insects Laboratory in Columbia, Missouri. In 1977, Don moved to Florida and became a Research Assistant for Lee County Mosquito Control District. The following year he became Superintendent of Lee County Hyacinth Control District and also became a member of The Aquatic Plant Management Society, Inc. Don chaired several committees for the society, including Site Selection, Local Arrangements, and Awards. He served as Treasurer from 1997 to 2003, and as President in 2007. Mr. Doggett also produced two historical videos for the society—Useppa Revisited and The Origin of a Society.
Don was also very active as a member of the Florida Aquatic Plant Management Society. He served as President in 1996, Secretary: 1990-1993, Director: 1986-1988 and 2008-2011. He was President of the FAPMS Scholarship and Research Foundation from 2003-2012.
In addition, Don volunteered as de facto photographer for both societies for a number of years.
